Leadership as a Service: a hand seems to levitate green and red glowing sticks in a room

From leadership as domination to leadership as service

May 4th, 2023

Autonomous teams pose a threat to traditional leaders, as they undermine their authority to make decisions such as on training approvals, career development or promotions. Some leaders see their perceived status under attack. However, all will recognize that their jobs, at least as currently defined, are at risk. Management should allow for the following:

  1. Growing into a new leadership style such as Agile Leadership / Servant Leadership. Their duty does not end with bringing teams to self-reliance.
  2. Higher appreciation, including financial, for leaders who help teams become self-reliant through their supportive behaviors. Those who give away their own status receive more respect and ultimately higher status.
